The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested six suspected internet fraudster in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A car snatcher was also apprehended.
A statement issued recently by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Rahman Nansel, revealed that following intelligent report, the Police personnel attached to Keffi Area Command raided the hide out of suspected internet fraudsters where they were arrested.
ASP Nansel explained that the suspects rented a four bedroom apartment at the Government Residential Area (G.R.A) in Keffi where they engaged in cyber crime/internet fraud also known as Yahoo-Yahoo. “Consequently, a search warrant was executed in the house which led to the recovery of the following exhibits: Twenty two (22) Laptops, Computer mouse, Laptop chargers and extension boxes,” he said.
He mentioned the names of the suspects arrested to include “Vincent Damisa ‘M’, 23yrs of Auchi, Edo State, Monday Desmond ‘M’ 18 yrs of Edo State and Donald Godwin ‘M’ 20yrs, of Benin city, Edo State.
Others were “Henry Chukwuemeka ‘M’ 18yrs of Isiala Mbano, Imo State, Emmanuel Ibiala ‘M’, 27yrs of Bekwarra, Cross river State and Dakuruk Abel ‘M’ 28yrs of Mangu Halle, Plateau State.”
The command has also arrested suspected car snatcher and recovered a Honda CR-V. “On 6/8/2021 at about 1200hrs, a complaint was lodged at Nasarawa Divisional Headquarters that, a Honda CRV, Black in colour with registration number Abuja YAB 458 DC was stolen from Ajaokuta, Kogi State and geo-located at Nasarawa-Loko road, Nasarawa State.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Police personnel attached to Nasarawa Division mounted a Stop and Search point at Gidan Kwano along the aforementioned route. “Consequently, the vehicle was intercepted and one Ifeanyi Christopher ‘M’ of NO 15, Mabu close, Elelewa, Porthacourt, Rivers State was arrested. The vehicle have been recovered and brought to the Police Station,” ASP Nansel said.
The state police spokesman said the suspects have confessed to committing the crime and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
He said the Commissioner of Police in state, AIG Bola Longe has commended the officers and urged them to sustain the tempo in ensuring that all criminal elements are brought to book.
Meanwhile, a new Commissioner of Police has assumed office in Nasarawa State he is CP Adeyemi Soyemi.
CP Soyemi takes over from the former CP Bola Longe who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and has been transferred to Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
At the handing over ceremony held on Tuesday in Lafia, AIG Longe enjoined people of Nasarawa state to extend their hands of fellowship to the new Commissioner in order to sustain the enduring peace in the state.
He urged the new commissioner to build a stronger synergy that will neutralise the antics and operations of criminal elements in the state, even as he charged the general public to cooperate with the new CP to enable him succeed.
AIG Longe appreciated the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali for considering him for his new rank and thanked the Governor of the state, Engr Abdullahi Sule for providing a conducive environment that enabled him to succeed.
He said “At this juncture, I want to acknowledge and appreciate the wonderful people of Nasarawa State for their cooperation and unflinching support throughout my tenure as Commissioner of Police towards the actualization of a crime free state.
“I want to as well register my sincere gratitude to the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, under the Royal guidance of our highly revered father, His Royal Highness, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage (RTD), the Emir of Lafia for mobilising all and sundry for the collective security of the state, through the instrumentality of Community Policing and grassroots consultation, which are really assisting the police and other security agencies in checkmating the antics of the criminal elements.
“This momentous occasion cannot end without acknowledging and appreciating our partners in the fourth estate of the realm, the Command values and cherishes your contributions and effort at projecting the command and the comprehensive reportage accorded its activities,” he said.
Responding, the new CP Soyemi said he would build on the crime- fighting template already developed by his predecessor. He, however, warned police personnel to do their best while discharging their statutory duties.
He said “I want to send a strong warning to my fellow officers who are in Nasarawa State that they should do their work, no corruption, anyone caught would be severely sanctioned, I repeat, anyone without exception. I promise to do that.”
The police command also paraded 55 suspected criminals arrested at different locations, 46 cultists, six internet fraudster, two drug barons and a car snatcher.
