The Benue State Police Command has reiterated that motorcycle restriction beyond 8:00pm is still in force in Makurdi, the state capital.
The command said it observed in recent times, the increase in movement of motorcyclists popularly called okada riders beyond the restricted hour and therefore, reminds residents that the earlier restriction is still in force.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, the decision follows reports that most criminal acts in Makurdi are perpetrated using motorcycles, and so, the order is still in force.
The statement further urged members of the public to take note of the announcement, as violators will be made to face the full wrath of the law. DSP Anene said the action is to guarantee security and peaceful co- existence in the state.
It will be recalled that the Benue state Government under Governor Samuel Ortom had earlier announced the restriction on movement of commercial motorcyclists in Makurdi on 16 May, 2016 between 8:00 pm-6:00 pm.
