The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has uncovered a new strategy criminals have developed to rob motorists of their vehicles in the state.
A statement issued on Monday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that the criminals usually pose as commuters and stop vehicles on the Lafia-Abuja and Akwanga-Keffi routes to perpetrate the act.
Nansel said: “The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has uncovered a technique criminals now use to dispossess unsuspecting owners of their vehicles. The criminals usually disguise as passengers to stop vehicles plying Lafia-Abuja/Akwanga–Keffi routes and, thereafter, dispossess them of the same vehicle
“In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, urges road users to desist from picking passengers from the roadside while the public is advised to board commercial vehicle at the approved motor parks.
“The Commissioner of Police further admonished members of the public to be security conscious and not succumb to the antics of the criminals as the Police Command has put measures in place to nip the crime in the bud.
“In case of any distress, members of the public can call the following numbers: 09115629178, 09067877096, 08112692680, and 08104441179.”
