The postponed defection ceremony of Member representing Otukpo-Ohimini Federal Constituency, at the House of Representatives, Mrs Blessing Onuh from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is billed to hold this Friday, at Township Ward 1, Otukpo Local Government of Benue State.

This followed the postponement of the earlier scheduled defection ceremony Saturday, due to the absence of the Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing the gathering at the St Mary’s Primary School, Otukpo, chairman of the event, Senator Jack Tilley-Gyado, said the event was the first segment of the series arrangements, put in place  to usher Blessing Onuh into the APC.

He regretted the absence of the Speaker, the National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC, Mai Buni, the Governor of Kano State, Abdullah Ganduje, the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen. George Akume and other party stalwarts, scheduled to grace the occasion, stressing that, it was a situation beyond their control, even as he announced that a new date, Friday, 18 December, 2020 had been fixed to officially give Onuh and her supporters the party emblems which are the flag and the broom.

“We’re using today’s event to inform you of the decision of Honourable Blessing Onuh to defect along with her followers from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), to the ruling APC, the main ceremony will be done next Friday,” he averred.

Tilley-Gyado, described the coming of the Otukpo-Ohimini representative and her supporters to the APC as a big asset to the party, stressing that a new chapter had been opened in the life of APC in Benue South and by extension, Benue State.

Also speaking, the Benue APC Chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, thanked  Mrs Blessing Onuh, for her decision to join the All Progressives Congress, assuring her and her supporters of equal treatment with the older members of the party, even as he said that her decision has added fillip to the electoral fortunes of the APC in the zone.

On his part, the APC governorship candidate in the last gubernatorial election in Benue State, Barr Emmanuel Jime, expressed delight at the  defection of Blessing Onuh from APGA to the APC, saying, the Reps Member is a big asset any political party would like to have in its fold, while thanking the people of Zone C for the support given to him during the last gubernatorial election in the state.

He explained that if the other Senatorial Zones in Benue State voted in the pattern the people of Benue South voted, he would have become the governor of the state.

Speaking, Mrs Blessing Onuh, expressed disappointment for the absence of the party dignitaries from Abuja and enjoined the people to again turn up en masse to witness the official ceremony of the defection next Friday.

She explained that the absence of the APC bigwigs was due to unavailability of flights from Abuja to Makurdi at scheduled time of travel as the one earlier arranged developed technical faults and appealed to her constituents for patience and understanding.

She thanked her constituents for their unflinching support and loyalty to her political career, promising never to fail them.

*The Voice* reports that, all other persons who spoke, including the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the last general election,  Sam Ode, former House of Representatives Member for Otukpo-Ohimini Federal Constituency, Nelson Alapa among others, lauded the sterling qualities of Mrs Blessing Onuh and welcomed her to the All Progressives Congress.
