Special Adviser to the Governor of Niger State on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso has appealed to the state government and well to do individuals to as a matter of urgency provide sanitary pads to students in schools in order to improve their hygiene.
She made the appeal on Tuesday at the second edition of the Aisha Wakaso Pad-up Symposium for women’s health at IBB Pen House, Minna.

She said the girl child needs total attention and care as hygiene is topmost priority and it high time we supported the girl child at all cost.
Wakaso explained that the children selected where those with special needs as they have more need for the pad than others.
In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women and Affirmative Action, Mary Noel Berje lamented the high level of neglect for the less privileged girl child, stressing that it is sad to see that condoms are being distributed for free whereas pad are bought.
“If condoms are given to men for protection what stops pad to also be given for the sake of hygiene, ” she said.
She further said it was time for everyone to come together and reduce the cost of providing sanitary pads and other needs of the less-privileged girl children.
