Benue Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, has warmed that workers in public schools are not part of the Friday holiday declared for civil servants in the state.
The commissioner made this known in response to the concern of some teachers that they are part of the farm holiday.
According to him, teachers are part of those offering essential services in the society and are exempted from such holidays.
He explained that taking away Fridays from the school calendar for two months will cause more harm than good to the education system affecting the Benue child.
He appealed to teachers in the state to make the sacrifice for the betterment of the society.
Recall that the Benue State Government had earlier declared all Fridays from 6 November, 2020 to 29 January, 2021 as public holidays to enable workers harvest their farm produce.
