Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Benue State have started reacting to the shift in dates for the proposed nationwide membership registration/revalidation exercise of the party.
Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, Peter Akulega, in a chat with The Voice Politics at the party secretariat Monday, said the decision is a good development.
He said; “the shift would enable the national committee to do a thorough job, by giving prospective members equal opportunity.”
According to him, “bringing officials from states, other than their own, will add credibility and make people to rekindle their faith in the party.”
Also, Denen Azege, a one time Chairman of Governor’s Aides in Benue State said, “there was need for re-organisation and restructuring.
They (committee members) have constituted committees at all levels to ensure proper registration. It is really to make sure that the exercise is very comprehensive.
“It is all encompassing and intending to have all those wiling to come into the party to be fairly treated and to give everyone the sense of belonging.
“Members just have to be steadfast, take the exercise seriously, as it is the exercise that will add credibility to APC family, and if you are not registered you cannot vote and be voted for”.
The party had announced in a statement titled, “Notice,” and signed by the Secretary of the Caretaker/National Convention Planning Committee of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, in Abuja, on Saturday that: “We sincerely apologise on the postponement of the proposed All Progressives Congress party registration which was scheduled to take place on Monday 25th of January, 2021, now put on hold till further notice.”
“We, therefore, implore all members and stakeholders, well-wishers and lovers willing to join our great party to put on hold till directive comes from above…”
According to information from the national secretariat of the party, by the new arrangement, Monday, 25 – 27 January, 2021 would be constitution and inauguration of the state membership registration committees/train the trainers period.
