Rehabilitate technical schools, lawmakers tell Niger govt

Niger State Assembly has called on the state government to renovate dilapidated structures in technical schools and equip them with modern equipments across the state.

This was the resolution of the House after a motion brought before it under matters of urgent public importance, raised by Jibrin Baba, representing Lavun Constituency during plenary on Wednesday, calling on the executive arm of government to renovate dilapidated structures, equip and revive technical schools across the state.

Baba, explained that proper technical education requires specialized tools and equipment with expertise in training in specific skills, as well as knowledge related to science, technology, engineering and mathematical field.

He expressed dismay over the technical schools structures located across the state, stating that they are in a dilapidated state with no equipments and instruments to teach the required and necessary practical aspect of impacting technical skills to the students.

“Most of the equipments that are there is nothing to write home about,” he said.

Contributing separately, Engr Haruna Muhammed, representing Bida 2 and Shuabiu Iya of Suleja Constituency said the technical schools have become a shadow of what they should be.

Speaker of the House, Abdullahi Bawa, while reading the House resolutions, invited the Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin to appear before the House on November 3, 2022 to explain why technical schools are abandoned and not included among schools to be renovated by the state government.
