The Member representing Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Dr Francis Ottah Agbo, has condemned the attack on the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

Dr Agbo in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Andrew Agbese, described the attack which happened on Saturday at Tyo-Mu along Makurdi/Gboko road in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, as a failed attempt to silence the voice of reason crying in defence of the people of Benue.

The lawmaker was full of gratitude to God that the gunmen who were said to have  trailed the governor to a river bank on foot, did not succeed in harming him.

He noted that, “if the attack was meant to silence Governor Ortom and make him compromise on the security and wellbeing of his people, then those behind it have failed as the governor is not someone who can be intimidated.”

He said: “The Ortom I know is not someone who can be intimidated or forced to abandon his people. From what I know of Governor Ortom, this would only spur him to continue to stand and defend his people.”

“Those using this antic have failed and will continue to fail because like the late Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia once said, we are confident in the victory of good of over evil,* he added.

The lawmaker who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs called on security agencies, especially troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Police, and Department of State Security (DSS) to ensure the bandits are apprehended and brought to justice.
