A political group, known as Equity and Justice Forum has called for the election of the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase to succeed Femi Gbajabiamila as speaker of the 10th Assembly.
The Chairman of the group, Nuhu Ayuba Shikdima who made the appeal on Tuesday in Jos during a press conference, said Wase has the best credentials and experience to occupy the seat.
“As a group, we want to as a matter of concern appeal to National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his entire Executive Council to consider our passionate appeal for the emergence of Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase as the speaker of the 10th assembly.”
“This forum has thrown its weight solely behind Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase because of the wealth of experiences and positions he has held in life that has made him highly competent and equipped for such critical position which will in turn give credence, good governance and development,” he said.
He further stated that the north central legislators deserve the speakership, explaining that the incumbent deputy speaker had in the past step-down for the present speaker due to his humility and respect for zoning, therefore, should be given the opportunity to occupy the office.
“The Equity and Justice Forum wishes to appeal to the president-elect and his vice president-elect to throw their weight behind an experienced legislator for the speakership, this astute politician has exhibited high sense of loyalty to the party and his principal during the 9th assembly and has been a unifier in all ramification.”
“We are also mindful of the party’s consideration to give every geopolitical zone a position of leadership for equity, justice and fairness in governance.
“It is on account of this that we call on the party leadership to consider swapping position that were hitherto in the North to the South and those that were in the South to the North,” he added.
