Niger State House of Assembly has called upon the Executive arm of government to come to the rescue of residents of Sarkin Pawa and environs, who have been cut off from Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM).
This formed part of the resolutions in a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Munya Constituency, Andrew Danjuma Jagaba at plenary on Wednesday.
The legislator expressed worry that there has been intermittent supply of network by service providers in areas of Sarkin Pawa and environs recently.
“With the present security challenges bedeviling these area, residents find it very difficult to call for assistance, especially when their communities come under siege.
“When a community is cut-off from having access to some basic social amenities, hardship is experienced,” he said.
He further said: “Section 17 (3) B of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, provides that the state shall direct its policy towards ensuring adequate facilities for leisure and for social, religious and cultural life.”
He, therefore, emphasised that GSM communication be restored in these areas to avoid susceptible attacks without being able to call for help.
