A former governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr Jeffrey Kuraun has described the actions of those trying to foist disunity between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF Senator George Akume and the Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia as shameful and unsuccessful.
He said what the Benue people need now is to come together and try to see how we can bring development to the state, and not to create and fan embers of enmity.
Dr Kuraun, who has since returned to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and is now reunited with the party hinted this position in an exclusive interview with The Voice Politics Desk today.
He said Akume is the political leader of the State and the North Central with higher responsibility and needed the Governor to stand by his side for the benefit of the State and the generality of middle belt region.
“Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Alia was voted in as Governor of Benue State and I think people should rally around him and support him so that he will succeed
“Our leader is distinguished Dr Senator George Akume and the Governor should stand with him. He doesn’t have the kind of energy to focus at what is happening in the State. He will focus at what is happening at the national level because it is a bigger and higher responsibility.
“I think that both of them have a responsibility to demonstrate leadership at their various levels, for harmony and peace, so that we can progress as a state”, he said.
Dr Kuraun who was the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in the last general elections added that, “those who are trying to bring disunity between the both of them I think is a shameful thing and they will not succeed.
“We should come together and try to see how we can bring development to the state, it is not to create enmity, our leader is distinguished Dr Senator George Akume and the Governor should stand with him.
“He doesn’t have the kind of energy to focus at what is happening in the State, our Governor can handle that and deal with it. He will now focus at what is happening at the national level because it is a bigger and higher responsibility.
“I think that both of them have a responsibility to demonstrate leadership at their various levels, for harmony and peace so that we can progress as a State”.
“I think some how the emphasis should not be on partisan politics now. There should be an all encompassing governance which is what the president has professed as leader and president of this country.
“You can see that he has brought people who are not members of the party into his cabinet to serve. So the emphasis now is on national/ State development. Is on moving our state forward.
“As a party faithful, I will say our party just like any other may be undergoing some crises, even challenges of people feeling aggrieved that they have not given them appointments or people feeling that they had served the party and are still hopeful that they will give them appointment.
“We should be happy to support those people who are leading us, we are talking about national/state development now.
Dr Kuraun who is the Founder of Jeffrey Kuraun Foundation also said he was organising a novelty football match in honour of the SGF.
“And one of the things that bring us together is football. Football is a unifying factor not just our state but in fact the entire world . And we want to honour the SGF because he has been supportive to the foundation. We are organising grassroots football with a novelty match, to bring people together to honour him.
“It is coming up on the 24th of December, 2023, from 2-6pm. Like I said is titled ” developing and encouraging grassroots football”, Kuraun explained.
