Commissioner for Education, Dr SarwuanTarnongu, has assured Scripture Union (SU) a non-governmental, non-denominational body of the ministry’s commitment to the advancement of its course in Benue schools.
He gave the assurance recently at the ministry’s headquarters, as he received members of the union on a courtesy call.
According to him, the proper moral and spiritual upbringing of the young ones will eventually translate to good for the entire country as it helps them make right decisions that will benefit all.
“It is good to carry out activities in the state that are in line with the blue print of the land. These activities you mentioned are so important especially as Governor Samuel Ortom has dedicated the state to God.
“We wish that our children grow up morally guided, as such, in whatever way the Ministry of Education can be of assistance let us know and it will be done,” he assured.
Leader of the SU delegation, Regional Chairman, Abuja SU, Dr Emmanuel Kalu, said the SU union which is 150 years old in existence is an evangelistic organization with the goal of spreading the good news especially to the young ones.
He said the Abuja regional zone comprises of the 19 northern states of the federation.
According to him, members of the union are worried about the moral decadence among the young ones reflected in the high rate of crime in the country and are proposing a partnership with the parent ministry responsible for the well being of students in state.
Kalu said the union wants more importantly, permission to be able to launch its programmes in the schools which includes various camp programmes and school visitations.
