The newly appointed Executive Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, has assured of her commitment towards result-oriented service for quality primary education in the state.
Dr. Adagba spoke Friday at the handover and takeover ceremony held at SUBEB Headquarters, Makurdi.
She pledged her commitment towards ensuring quality service in the discharge of her duties and assured that she would be result-oriented.
The Executive Chairman thanked Governor Alia for the enormous responsibility bestowed on her, which she said is an opportunity to serve. She assured that she and the other board members would carry out their duties effectively and give recommendations base on results.
“In the discharge of our duties, we are not going to be biased, we shall not look at faces, friends or ethnicity, it will be purely result-oriented. We are not going to be confirming appointments based on recommendations but we shall be confirming directors based on results”, she maintained.
“We are here to serve you and not to deduct money from staff or share contracts but to assure quality education. We shall key into the six-point agenda of the governor and ensure that the administration succeeds and we can only do that by being sincere, honest and accountable”, she added.
She pleaded with the staff of the organisation to be transparent, sincere, accountable and committed in the discharge of their duties as they work towards quality education in the state.
In his handover speech, the outgone Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Mzaga Iorhemba, welcomed Dr. Adagba and prayed God to guide and help her and the board members to carry out their activities.
He enumerated the challenges of the board which include: shortage of teaching staff, office space, inadequate overhead and monitoring vehicles which he said affects inspection.
Other challenges are: Lack of funds for in-house training, salary arrears for public teachers and administrative staff as well as delayed promotion of teaching staff from 2020 till date.
The Executive Chairman, Dr. Grace Adagba took a tour around the premises of the Board to access the environment, vehicles and equipment on ground.
