Sule appoints Khadi Abubakar-Agwai II Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, has nominated, Khadi Abubakar-Agwai II for confirmation by the State House of Assembly as the Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal in the State.

The Voice reports that Grand Khadi and Khadis preside over Sharia court while the President of the Customary Court and other Judges preside over the Customary Court of Appeal.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, disclosed this on Monday while reading Governor Sule’s letter during the House proceedings in Lafia.

Sule’s letter read: “Request for Confirmation of Appointment of Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Nasarawa State.

“Pursuant to Section 271 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and the powers conferred on me as the Governor, to appoint the Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“I Engr Abdullahi A. Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, acting on the recommendation by the National Judicial Council do hereby forward the nomination of Hon Kadi Bahago Yusuf Abubakar Agwai II for consideration and confirmation of his appointment as the Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal of Nasarawa State.

“I look forward to your expeditious consideration.”

The Speaker therefore, urged the nominee to submit 30 copies of his Curriculum Vitae (CV) before the end of Monday and appear for screening Tuesday, August, 2022.

In another development, three executive bills have passed their  first reading at the State House of Assembly.

The bills include; a bill for a law to provide for the Supply and Sanitation of Water in Nasarawa State and other Matters Connected Therewith, a bill for a law to establish the Nasarawa State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (NASEWMA) and other Matters Connected Therewith as well a  bill for a law to Repeal the Nasarawa State Bureau of Statistics Law No.84 of 2012 and Re-Enact Same 2022 and Other Matters Related Thereto.

The Speaker, Balarabe-Abdullahi, The announced the passage of the bills into first reading during the House proceedings on Monday in Lafia.

He said “I slate August 10, 2022 for the second reading of a A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Supply and Sanitation of Water in Nasarawa State and other Matters Connected Therewith.

“I slate August 15, 2022 for the second reading of a A Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (NASEWMA) and other Matters Connected Therewith.

“I slate August 17, 2022 for the second reading of A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Nasarawa State Bureau of Statistics Law No.84 of 2012 and Re-Enact Same 2022 and Other Matters Related Thereto.”

Earlier, the Leader of the House, Umar Tunga moved a motion House moved a motion for the bills to scale first reading and was seconded by the Minority Leader of the House, Abel Yakubu Bala.

The House unanimously passed the three bills into first reading.
