LAST Tuesday, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia inaugurated 17 Commissioners and 23 Special Advisers to form his cabinet.
WITH this, he is now well positioned to set the ball rolling to actualize his dream of a new Benue State.
THE commissioners who were selected across the state are believed to be men and women of proven integrity, vast knowledge and experience in various disciplines.
THERE is no doubt that they were selected based on their exceptional skills, capabilities and the preparedness to serve the state in accordance with Gov. Alia’s vision.
WITH their appointments, the commissioners are entrusted with responsibilities of implementing the policy thrust of the Alia-led administration which is anchored on agriculture and ICT driven economy.
ONE major challenge is how to sustain the status of Food Basket of the Nation with the prevailing scarcity so, research and proper funding of the agricultural sector cannot be over emphasized.
THIS administration came at a time the state is engulfed with insecurity with a greater percentage of the population ejected from their ancestral homes by suspected armed herdsmen. It is therefore incumbent on the state government to find a lasting solution to the crisis and it is heartwarming that Gov. Alia in the same vein, is preparing to return IDPs to their various homes.
BENUE State no doubt, is backward in terms of infrastructure. Agencies and departments responsible for infrastructural development should live above board and deliver as expected. They should be well funded and supervised to forestall failure.
BEFORE their appointments, the Alia-led administration has already performed and is receiving thumbs up from the Benue populace, such as prompt payment of salaries and pension, construction of roads, provision of fertilizer to farmers at subsidized rates, registration of WAEC and NECO 2023/2024 examinations for Benue students, procurement of buses for Benue Links, recovery of stolen vehicles and other properties from the past administration among others.
WITH Commissioners and Special Advisers sworn-in, implementation of projects should take a more pragmatic step so we urge them to accord their responsibilities the deserved commitment.
WE equally call on Governor Alia to set machinery in place to evaluate those he has appointed to help actualize his dream of a new Benue State as much as possible.
