From Moses Mbaiorga, Gboko
Following observations made from the just concluded Benue State All Secondary Schools Games held in Gboko, Teaching Service Board (TSB), Makurdi has announced plans to make the students’ sports fiesta more befitting and worthwhile.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Frank Kyungun, unveiled plans to upgrade the students’ sports competition while delivering a keynote address during the Grand Finale of the 2021 edition of the students’ showpiece.
According to Dr Kyungun, henceforth, all student participants shall be fully kitted as expected of them in their respective games and the board is ready to support where need be.
He said students who will emerge as best participants in the various sporting events will go home with a cash of not less than N10,000 each in addition to the medal and best teams will not only receive trophies and medals as usual but cash too.
All the 23 local governments in the state shall participate in the games unfailingly as failure would attract punitive measures, and the participating local governments and their students alike would not leave the venue before the grand finale.
“Similarly laurels shall not be given by proxy to individual winners so that those who won such prizes will collect themselves and feel part of the impact of the competition just as individual brilliance will be encouraged through sponsorship to higher heights,” he stated.
Meanwhile, out of the 14 local governments that took part in the just concluded All Secondary Schools Games christened “Gboko 2021,” Gboko Local Government came first with 33 Gold, 20 Silver and 17 Bronze medals; Makurdi came second with 16 Gold, 18 Silver and 2 Bronze medals while Kwande emerged as second runners up with 8 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals respectively.
