Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Titus Uba has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consensus aspirant in the Tiv speaking area ahead of the party’s primary elections.
The Leader of the party in Vandeikya, David Amoh announced this Sunday at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi during a stakeholders meeting of G14 which comprises of the 14 Tiv speaking local government areas of the state.
According to him, “four aspirants: Dr Paul Angya, Terkaa Ucha, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar and Titus Uba were selected in the mock primary that was conducted. After due consultations, the stakeholders finally settled for Titus Uba. This decision has been accepted by all the stakeholders.”
“We appreciate the party for giving us the opportunity to produce the aspirant for the gubernatorial candidate. We are also very grateful to the aspirants for their understanding,” he added.
Mr Jerome Uyina, in a remark on behalf of PDP Chairmen in the Tiv speaking areas; Caleb Aba for Executive Chairmen in Tiv speaking areas; Damian Cheme for Tiv caucus in the Benue State House of Assembly affirmed the choice of Titus Uba.
Others, who spoke in favour of the choice of Uba include: Leader G14, Laha Dzever, John Dyegh for Tiv caucus in the Federal House of Representatives, Barr Chile Igbawua for all PDP gubernatorial aspirants in the Tiv speaking areas and Margret Icheen for PDP Women Wing.
Others were: Isaac Mfo for Benue State Working Committee of PDP, Senators Gabriel Suswam and Senator Orker Jev.
With this development, Uba will slug it out with the Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu at the party’s gubernatorial primary election scheduled for May, 2022.
The speaker was presented to the various blocks in Tiv: JECHIRA, SANKERA, MINDA, JEMGBA and KWANDE. Thereafter, the Chairman of Forum of Aspirants, Barr Chile Igbawua with stakeholders from all the blocks handed over Uba to Governor Samuel Ortom.
Recall that Engr Abounu was earlier adopted as the sole aspirant of PDP from the Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C).
