A suspect in the murder of a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM), Dr Karl Kwaghger has confessed to killing the university don.

According to a press statement by the Nigeria Police, Benue State Command and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, the suspect, Jeremiah Nnamani, who hails from Umigwe in Imo State and a student of the FUAM, Makurdi, and was arrested in Abuja, where he went to sell the car belonging to the deceased, said he did not intend to kill Dr Kwagher but events ran out of control.

The statement said, Nnamani, who spoke during interrogation and confessed to the crime, said his initial intention was not to kill the victim but to threaten him with a fake gun and then disposes him of his car, however, he ended up killing him, because of his resistance and took away his car.

The statement, explained that, the police, on receiving information about the incident on 28 November, 2020, at about 9:20 PM, that the Late Prof. Kwaghger, was found in a pool of his blood at J.S Tarka Foundation, Makurdi, where he went to relax, swung into action to investigate.

It further said, Police detectives were deployed to the scene of the incident, where they saw the now deceased, brutally stabbed in his ribs, with a cut on his neck.

“He was immediately rushed to Bishop Murray Hospital, where he was confirmed dead and his body was deposited at the hospital morgue,” the statement noted.

It added that however, investigation into the matter is still in progress.
