The Chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Nasarawa State and the state chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, has emerged as the National President of the association .
Maifata succeeded Hon Kolade Alabi, who led the national leadership of the association from April 2019 to March, 2024.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State who received the news with joy, expressed happiness over the election of Hon Maifata, as the President of the Association in the country.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press secretary ( CPS) Ibrahim Addra said his elevation to the position of National President of ALGON was well deserved.
Sule noted noted that the humility, calm disposition, hard work and unwavering loyalty of Hon Maifata which had remained constant gained him the position.
The governor added that he was optimistic that the new National President will bring his wealth of experience to bear in steering the Association in the right direction.
He stated that the third tier of government was critical and worthy partners in the quest for rapid development of the country.
“As an ambassador of the state in whom we are pleased I wish you a successful tenure and an assurance of my support and that of the Government of Nasarawa State.
” I, therefore congratulate you, praying God to grant you more wisdom and good health,” the governor concluded
The Voice reports that until his election, Hon Maifata served at the National Executive Council, (NEC) of ALGON as National Treasurer and National deputy President respectively.
He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Jos and Nasarawa State University respectively.
The new ALGON president was a lecturer at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia between 2003 and 2018.
Maifata also served as Special Adviser on Solid Minerals Development to the Governor Umaru Tanko Al- Makura of Nasarawa State between 2017- 2018.
It anticipated that he will accelerate ALGON’s objective of supporting effective and grassroots led local government governance and pursue successful collaborations with important national, state, and international stakeholders by applying his tried-and-true expertise and extensive experience.
