Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has reiterated the need to maintain transparency, accountability and professional standard, in the management of public funds.
The governor stated this while declaring open a two-day workshop on Emerging Trends in Administrative Processes, Procedures and General Pension Matters organized by Local Government Service Commission at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna on Thursday.
The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, said government will continue to support local government service to ensure it uplifts all challenges within local government service. He called on all local governments to desist from all sharp practices.
The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Engr Mohammed Ahmed Dabban said the workshop is an opportunity for participants to evolve new consciousness and consensus on the goals and objectives of management and administration for efficiency, as advocated by the present administration of Governor Bello.
He noted that it is pertinent for the workers to understand and appreciate the relevance and importance of the new administrative principles, processes and practice, effective office management and salient issues characterizing pension administration at the local government level.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Nuhu Garba Ngaski stated that the commission has been making concerted efforts towards restructuring local government service in the state for optimal performance, stating that the workshop is aimed at exposing the participants to various tools and techniques involved in public policy making process and the expected roles of the bureaucrats.
In their separate remarks, the representative of the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Shaibu Liman Iya, Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Hakilu Musa Kuta said the workshop is timely and will help in improving the challenges faced by the commission.
