The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has promised to tackle the insecurity bedeviling Nigeria if elected as the president of the country, come 2023.

Obi made the promise at the flag-off of the Presidential Campaign of LP, held on Saturday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to him, the issue of insecurity was one of the major challenges facing the country, saying that if elected, he will address the situation for the growth and development of the country.

He said: “I assure you that if we come into power, we will address the persistent farmers/herders clashes and farmers will go back to their farms. We will tackle the state of insecurity bedevilling the entire nation.

“We will also support youths because today, our youths do not have hope but if we come into government, we will support them, in order to reduce the high level of criminality in the country.

“We will pull the youths of Nasarawa State out of poverty and support the growth of agriculture in Nasarawa State and ensure that there is food sufficiency in the country. The prices of goods will come down. This is because today many Nigerians are finding it difficult to feed themselves. If India can feed themselves, Nigeria can also feed herself.

“We will also solve the flooding problem ravaging the country and ensure that there is adequate supply of electricity for our industries to grow.

“When the LP wins, there will no more be strike in the Nigerian universities. The government will not comprise on youths and women. We will provide fertiliser to farmers across the nation.”

He, therefore, called on Nigerians to vote for him and all candidates of the LP to enable them revive the economy of the country.

On his part, the national Chairman of LP, Julius Abure, appreciated the residents of Nasarawa state for coming out enmass to support the party and its candidates to enable them succeed at the polls, come 2023 .

He said that the LP will deliver Nigeria from the state of insecurity, unemployment, poverty, hunger and starvation, lamenting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed the citizens.

“In the 2023 elections, we must change the APC and PDP. So you all should have your Permanent Voter Cards so that you will be allowed to vote for candidates of your choice.

“Our presidential candidate is strong. We need an energetic and vibrant person because the nation has been suffering from economy hardship due to the wrong choice of candidate,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the electorates to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to enable them vote and change the fortune of the country.

Earlier, the state Chairman of LP, Mr Alexander Emmanuel, thanked the leadership of the party for choosing Nasarawa State as the venue for the presidential campaign flag-off.

He promised to mobilise grassroot support for Peter Obi, as well as educate the electorates on the need to vote for all candidates of the LP in the forthcoming general elections.
